Children's Rights: Participation in Practice

Promoting child-led participation and children and young people's rights.

The course looks at the current guidance on child-led participation and children’s rights in relation to participation. It explores what you currently do and explains how you could and should integrate children's rights throughout your practice.

This course will help you to:

  1. Enhance your knowledge of the current guidance on children’s rights.
  2. Understand your role as a childminder in supporting children to express their views, make decisions and participate, and the benefits of this.
  3. Establish meaningful ways of involving children in your childminding service.
  4. Identify ways to capture and prove that participation takes place and is valued within your service, in line with Care Inspectorate Standards.

  • The vulnerability of the childminder as a lone worker.
  • Roles and responsibilities of the childminder and of key professionals.
  • The development of a child protection statement.
  • Reporting procedures.
